About ‘The Wall of Death’
Experience the thrill of the Wall of Death with the Ken Fox Troupe, a family-run team of daredevil riders who have been captivating audiences across the UK and Europe for over four decades. This exhilarating show features motorcyclists performing gravity-defying stunts on a vertical 20-foot wooden wall, delivering a heart-pounding spectacle that has become a staple of traditional fairground entertainment.
The Ken Fox Troupe‘s performance is a meticulously crafted 15-minute display comprising six distinct acts:
- Straight Wall Riding: Riders warm up by circling the wall, building anticipation and showcasing their control.
- Dips and Dives of Death: A rider ascends to the top of the wall, executing daring dips with the rear wheel coming perilously close to the safety cable, eliciting gasps from the audience.
- Go-Kart: Transitioning to four wheels, a go-kart is driven around the wall, testing speed and agility in a unique twist.
- Trick and Acrobatic Riding: Demonstrating exceptional skill, a rider performs stunts such as side-saddle riding, sitting on the handlebars, and standing on the side of the motorcycle, adding an electrifying element to the show.
- Pillion Passenger: A female rider joins as a pillion passenger or balances on the handlebars, highlighting trust and coordination between performers.
- Hell Riders Race: The grand finale features three riders simultaneously navigating the wall, passing within inches of each other and riding side by side, showcasing unparalleled precision and bravery.
The troupe’s dedication to preserving the heritage of the Wall of Death is evident in their use of vintage motorcycles, including original American Indian models from the 1920s. Ken Fox, the patriarch of the troupe, began his journey with the Wall of Death in Skegness, where he started as a ticket collector before progressing to rider and eventually owner. His passion for the craft has been passed down to his sons, Luke and Alex, who continue the family tradition of thrilling audiences with their performances.
Beyond the adrenaline-fueled stunts, the Ken Fox Troupe is committed to educating others about the history and mechanics of the Wall of Death. They maintain their vintage motorcycles and the wall itself, ensuring the preservation of this unique form of entertainment for future generations.
